Johnny Cash’s tour bus, which he used from 1979 to 2003, was
restored to its original condition by CMI. The bus was
Johnny Cash’s personal touring bus, which he purchased for $553,000
from Custom Coach Corporation in Columbus, Ohio. He used the vehicle
for all his tours, including the 1991 Highwayman Tour, where the
vehicle also ferried Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Kris
Kristofferson.
Called the “JC Unit 1,” the bus is on its second engine, with
370,000 miles.
The walnut in the
stateroom comes from Johnny’s farm in Tennessee, which was used
by Ulysses S. Grant as his headquarters during the Civil War.
There’s a center
galley with sink, stove, refrigerator, freezer and dinette.
The rear stateroom
has two sleeper sofas.
The interior has
black leather and brown velour, but reflects the normal
wear-and-tear from 20 years of heavy touring.
The vehicle has four
separate rooms, all with their own TVs, VCRs and radios.
